How to Open Port on AWS EC2 Instance

In this tutorial, we will demonstrate step by step guide to open port on AWS EC2 instance.

aws fundamentals

We assume that you have created AWS EC2 instance and able to access the EC2 dashboard. If not, please do read our blog to create AWS EC2 instance from scratch.

Open Port on AWS EC2

Step 1: Log in to AWS Management console and navigate to Instances.

Step 2: Select the EC2 instance on which you want to open the port and click on your Security groups name as shown below,

Step 3: You will be redirected to that Security group configuration dashboard. Now click on Edit Inbound rules.

Step 4: In this step,

  1. Click on Add rules
  2. Select the Type (SSH, HTTPS or TCP, etc)
  3. Give the port range (If needed)
  4. Select the Source (Custom/Anywhere/MyIP)
  5. Give small description
  6. Click on Save Rules.

That’s simple! This is how you open a port to access EC2 instance over SSH, HTTP or HTTPS.
